Today, the stainless steel industry is expanding worldwide and stainless steel production in India market is growing faster every year. There is around 75% of stainless steel is still used in Kitchen segment and 95% of 300 series (Grade 304). Meanwhile, the government of India is also using Ferritic cold rolled stainless steel strip to make coil as well as use of stainless steel in the infrastructure.
Indian still to go long way in development of its basic infrastructure however there is only 1% of domestic stainless steel consumption goes into construction compared to 25% in China. Meanwhile, the other areas are such as Architecture, Building & Construction, Automotives, Railway & Transport are expected to strong demand growth in India for next few years.
As we known that India is also now the highest producer of low nickel with manganese austenitic stainless steel in the 200 series in the last decade. According to Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) said, the share of catering equipment in Indian’s total consumption of stainless steel was around 90% and industrial usage was only 10% in India market. The statistic from ISSDA reported the project consumption stainless steel from 2005 to 2016 in India. The demand growth total is around 12.2%. The projected consumption total stainless steel products are 1.29million tons in 2005 and it will expect to increase around 2.5 million tons in year between 2009 and 2010.
It will be glad to see the India export will try to create valve - add products likes pipes & tubes and kitchen utensils. It will be also more competitive by offering bar, wired rod and wires into Europe, USA and Asia market.

Now, stainless production is also growing in India with Jindal Stainless(JSL), India’s main stainless steel producer, planning to invest $26m in three stainless steel service centers in the country over the next year. The centers are to be located in the states of Guiarat, Mumbai and Chennai and will produce customized stainless products of 200, 300 and 400 series grade stainless. Meanwhile the company continues to focusing on its products such as precision tubes, blade steel and cold blanks to their current customers in worldwide.
Another major stainless steel producer is Salem Steel Plant(SSP). The company is strong at thickness 0.13mm of cold roll stainless steel and the products they offer included 300 and 400 series. Alloy Steel Plant(ASP) is also producing Ausenitic and Ferritic stainless steel as well as valve add product such as stainless steel 409 in India. There is also new generation producer which is Viraj Group is producing all types of stainless steel grade in Ausenitic, Ferritic and Martenistic and Duplex products. Their production includes in the form of forgings and flanges, angles, flar bar and bright bars, wire rods and wires.
